The location
Very friendly staff that greeted me upon arrival and gave me a tour. Didn't expect the 'rooms' to all be in the common area, but was happy to notice everybody respected quiet hours. (The rooms don't have a roof, so you hear everything that happens on the whole floor. Nothing a good pair of earplugs couldn't fix though.) Great healty breakfast options, including fresh fruit.

The staff was very cordial and helpful, especially with assisting me in carrying up my heavy luggage up the long flight of stairs pass the front entrance door to enter into the actual hostel. The place has a very modest, no frills arrangement with many small, individual pod rooms created instead of taking a bed amongst many in one large dorm. No cooking facilities but free breakfast style foods (vegetarian) offered all day long. Super easy to get to from Penn Station.
The main advantage of Interfaith Retreats is its central location in New York. It situated near Penn Station. All main points of city were within walking distance, Personal was friendly.
I enjoyed the privacy of having my own private pod with lock and key. It's perfect for anyone traveling alone and just needs a place to sleep at night.

When I asked for paper towels, the host refused to pass one to me, placing it far away at the opposite end of the table. Felt a bit like antebellum south, unfortunately. Another gentleman who worked there was kinder and gave me an avocado
Very clean and very good position. The staff is very nice as well.
Healthy continental breakfast available including fresh fruit, selection of cereals, tea, bread, nut butters and jams. Great value for the cost of the room! Baggage storage available, which is a plus because the hostel is centrally located. Refrigerator is available for food storage.

This place is really memorable. Do read the reviews and check out the full listing. Yes it's not luxury but it was safe, clean and in the heart of Manhattan. I travelled solo as a female and felt safe. Everyone was very quiet in the common area and the staff were helpful and friendly. Was really cool being in the tranquily lit common area and seeing the skyscrapers outside
Clean, quiet, felt secure
The location is great. If your trip is only for a few days and you don't want to spend a lot of money, this place is a really good option.
I booked this place for night stay only. Checked in at 8 pm and had left by 10 am the next morning. I get bad putting myself through this stay. I’m 5’2” and petite still I felt the bed was way too small. I won’t come back here under any circumstances. Obnoxiously priced for a sleeping pod.
The Chelsea location is very convenient. Right near Penn Station, easy to get to from the airport. Lots of things nearby.
The very helpful and friendly staff
Appreciated the 24-hr access to fruit, bread/toast, jam, coffee/tea etc. It was great to be so close to the train station. I liked having a private 'pad' with locked access. Previous visitors noted a lot of noise. I didn't find that during my stay. People were very conscious of being quiet and respectful. I wanted a safe, convenient place to spend the night between trains and was glad for the no drugs, alcohol, smoking or parties policies.
